tinbum Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 I have read loads about failed and failing aux heater glow plugs, and was sure that this was the problem with my wifes galaxy. However i removed the heater, took it apart and looked at the glow plug. I then put current through it and it glowed red hot. anoyingly the heater still doesn't kick in through the cold weather. Where do i look now? Please help as the wife is fairly miffed having no heater in the car with the snow all around! Quote
chrispb123456 Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 Firstly what year model is your car? if it's a MK2 then it may be locked out for what could be a number of reasons. So you need to get a VCDS interface cable and software, then check for fault codes. Quote
tinbum Posted March 25, 2013 Author Report Posted March 25, 2013 its a 2006 (56) TDI 170bhp mk 2is t likely to just be a lock out? Quote
seatkid Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 On a Mk2, IIRC, if the heater fails to start 3 times in a row, it will lock out and you need to reset the fault code (using VAGCOM/VCDS or a very expensive dealer) before the heater will attempt another go. Thats probably happened to you, but of course there would be a reason for the non start in the first place e.g. glowplug, metering pump etc etc. An £8 VAGCOM/VCDS cable from fleabay would be a wise investment Quote
